🌱 Georgia's Travel Traffic Tricks + Could It Be A White Christmas?!

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Loganville-Grayson.

Hello again, and happy Monday! It's me, your host of the Daily. Check out some of the most important things happening around town, including updates on...

  • A special 'thank you' to Gwinnett County School employees just in time for the holidays.
  • Could it be that Georgia has a white Christmas? It's really possible this year.
  • An all Loganville basketball rematch will kick off your Christmas week with excitement.

But first, today's weather:

So it's pretty cold for Georgia. Today's high is only about 48 and with a low early this morning of 28, it's definitely time to grab your winter coat for your morning commute. With mostly clouds in the sky, we can expect it to feel pretty chilly all day.

Here are the top stories today in Loganville-Grayson:

  1. Friday night, Gwinnett County fire fighters spent hours extinguishing a fire that destroyed a Loganville home. Nearly 30 firefighters responded to the blaze and attempted to fight the flames from inside of the home, until they were forced out due to safety issues. Eventually, the fire was brought under control. It is believed the fire was accidental and caused by something in the electrical system. There were no injuries reported. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. As an extra 'thank you' for Gwinnett County schools employees, the Gwinnett County Board of Education voted to give all eligible employees a one-time $1,000 bonus. The bonus will be included in December paychecks. Superintendent Watts stated that Gwinnett County schools is committed to continuing to recruit and retain the very best. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. Kevin Morris, a Walton County attorney and Magistrate judge has been appointed by Governor Kemp to replace Judge John Ott as the Superior Court judge of the Alcovy Judicial Circuit. Judge Ott has served as a Superior Court judge since 1990, and will be retiring December 31. (Covington News)
  4. Could it be a white Christmas for Georgia?! Weather models show temperatures dropping into the teens with single digit wind chills as we approach Christmas Eve. The highs will remain in the 40's until Thursday, and then the cold is expected to blast into Georgia overnight. Forecasts show rain with the possibility of a wintry mix Friday. As it's still early, the models could change, but expect a much colder Christmas holiday. Northwest Georgia has the best chance for accumulation. (Fox 5 Atlanta)

  • It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas holiday. If you're looking for a way to slow down, Light House World Outreach Church will be creating a live nativity scene on Monroe's historic courthouse lawn. From December 20 to Christmas Eve the scene will be alive from 6:00pm to 8:00pm each night. (Monroe Local)

  • Great news for your Georgia travels. The Georgia Department of Transportation recently announced that it will suspend lane closures on all interstates and state routes during the Christmas weekend and New Year's weekend beginning this Thursday, December 22. As a reminder, drivers are asked to continue to use caution in these areas as construction crews may work near roadways or emergency vehicles may be in use. Based on previous traffic patterns, it is expected that December 21-22 will be the heaviest traffic days during the Christmas week while December 28-29 will be the heaviest traffic days during New Year's week.
