Girl with Cystic Fibrosis Takes Karate!

A young girl named Elena, who has cystic Fibrosis, tells us about how much she loves karate.

Too many parents say that their children can’t do karate. They believe that their child is too shy, too unfocused, or has too much energy. Other parents believe their child couldn’t excel in karate because their child has asthma, ADD, AD-HD, or Aspergers. In reality karate is probably one of the best sports for you child! Children of all ages, and backgrounds take karate! Karate will teach children self discipline, focus, and self-defense! No one enjoys karate more than Elena Goodrow! Elena, is a ten year old girl who takes Karate at A.M.A.I. Karate in Loganville. She tells us how much she loves taking Karate!

“My name is Elena. I’m ten years old an i have Cystic Fibrosis, CF for short. I have to say that the hardest thing about CF is having to do my vest and nebulizer. My vest shakes to shake up the mucus in my lungs and eventually i cough it out. My nebulizer is a breathing machine that helps get medicine into my lungs. To you this may sound really easy, but it’s not. It gets easier over the years. My treatments used to take 30 minutes, Now it only takes 20! I have to do my treatments in the morning and at night. It is hard in the morning because it takes up time and can affect my schedule. I don’t mind doing it at night. I feel fine going to bed late.

I really don’t like doing my treatments, but i do. I do because i want to stay healthy. If i was sick and had to stay inside, I wouldn’t be able to do my favorite sport, Karate. I do karate at A.M.A.I. I really like that studio because it teaches you self-discipline while also being fun and funny. For example, while we‘re stretching, my instructor tells us funny stories and embarrassing moments! My favorite thing to do in karate is combos. Like punch, kick, punch, block, kick. I LOVE KARATE!
