Goat Yoga In Loganville: Sign Up For Saturday's Class

LOGANVILLE, GA – Yes, Goat Yoga is for real! However, you do run the risk of an occasional nibble or hoof massage.

A goat farm in Loganville will host its first Goat Yoga class on Saturday, April 29. It's just in time for the newest group of baby goats to join in with yogis. Enjoy an hour-long yoga class, led by certified yoga instructor Beau Sellers and his wife, Kristen, in a pleasant pasture with Nigerian Dwarf goats.

"My wife actually came up with the idea. She was looking for something fun for us to do as a family, and she likes to plan crazy, out-of-the-box, adventures for us," said Beau in an email to Patch. "So when she stumbled on goat yoga, we all really wanted to give it a try. The problem was that nowhere near us offers goat yoga. I guess that wasn't a problem for my wife, who after a few hours came to me and asked if I would be willing to teach goat yoga. Life's funny. Since I'm already a certified yoga instructor, it really just made sense to be able to offer this adventure to others. We call it Just Kidding Around Yoga."

Beau, who grew up in Walton County and calls himself a Georgia boy, said the danger of being around the goats is minimal.

"We are using up to 50-pound Nigerian dwarf kid goats. They do nibble and are attracted to hair and jewelry. They will jump up on your back, but most people feel like it's a kinda awkward back massage with their hooves. Goats are really friendly and social, they like to cuddle and be around people, and have even been used to help with anxiety and PTSD. The whole goat yoga craze began in Oregon with a lady that began with goats for therapy."

Beau promises there are plenty of goats to go around.

"The goats seemed to love it, really," he said. "They were very curious at first, but when it was time to leave the farm, we literally had to pick one of the does up off the yoga mat and move her, she just gravitated towards that mat the whole time we were there. She ended up in almost every photo! We feel like people sometimes take themselves too seriously, this is just a fun chance to get outdoors, let loose and laugh."

The one-hour class starts at 11 a.m. Tickets are $25. Register here.

The event is listed on Facebook.
