🌱 GPS Crime Initiative + Gas Tax Suspended Through Mid-October
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Loganville-Grayson.
Hello all. It's me, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Loganville-Grayson Daily. Here's all the local news you need to know right now.
First, today's weather:
Humid; a stray p.m. t-storm. High: 84 Low: 70.
Here are the top five stories today in Loganville-Grayson:
- The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office is introducing a new initiative, "THE GPS." The mission of this new system is to provide an alternative release to long-term detention for people committing minor crimes that cannot afford to pay a low bond. In order to keep the public safe, and reserve jail space for high-risk criminals, this initiative will hopefully be able to accomplish both of those tasks. (Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
- An important note for Loganville and Grayson drivers: Governor Brian Kemp has recently announced that gas taxes will be suspended again through the middle of October. Along with gas taxes, locomotive train fuel taxes from the state will be suspended as well. Georgia gas prices are still above where they were this time last year but are dropping from the very high summer prices. (WABE 90.1 FM)
- Looking for something fun to do in the area? This month, the Lawrenceville Arts Center — just a short drive from Grayson — will be offering a lot of activities and events to kick off the fall season. There will be everything from Mary Poppins, to Boy Band tributes! Check out the full list of events to plan your next date night, girls' night out, or family fun day. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
- The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has received a $2 million grant for services for senior citizens in the county. The money will go towards services such as transportation meals and assisted living programs. Some money will also go towards a software program, Claris Companion, which makes connecting to loved ones and doctors easy for seniors. ( The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- In honor of September being National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office will have a Mental Health Task Force event on Sept. 17. "Guide" will be hosting the event, as well as sharing resources and information about how to prevent this kind of tragedy in the community. The Sheriff's Office hopes to be able to aid in raising awareness and doing its part to help those affected by suicide. (Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
