The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.60 in Georgia on Sunday, almost five cents lower than the previous week, AAA said in its weekly fuel price briefing. The average was $2.71 a month ago and $3.48 last year.

AAA said falling oil prices was a contributor to the decreases. West Texas Intermediate was below $51 a barrel for the first time in three months.

“The price of oil continues to be the main driver of gas prices,” Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group, said in the briefing. “As oil gets cheaper, it becomes less expensive to produce gasoline, and those savings are reflected in prices at the pump.”

Georgia prices have fallen 28 of the last 34 days (through Sunday), AAA said.

The lowest price reported Monday in the area on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.45.
