The summer market got off to a soggy start, that's for sure! "It's raining, it must be Wednesday" became our secondary theme throughout June and July. But we've been blessed with some pretty freaking awesome early Fall weather in the last few weeks giving us time to enjoy our community and the harvest brought to you by local growers and producers. At their request, the City of Grayson has extended the market through the end of October and added in a few surprises throughout the next month to make things fun and family friendly.
Let's Start With Produce
What can you find among the produce offerings? There are still some pretty tasty late-season Tomatoes available from a few of our vendors, as well as some squash. Those little baby squash that are so tender when sauteed or grilled ... Yummmmmm... Fresh from the gardens this week, you'll also find Green and Burgundy Okra, Assorted Beans, Buttercrunch Lettuce, Bok Choy, Arugula, Basil, Sweet Potatoes, Bell Pepper, Burgundy Okra, Green Okra, Cucumbers, Poblano Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, Cream Peas, and Muscadines.
There's a reason why we call this the harvest season!
The Fun Stuff
This week, we're bringing Dr. Susan Perz for Bunny Friends story time in the gazebo. Dr. Susan will be bringing one of the bunnies that have been her inspiration for series of children books. She'll have some of her books on hand to sign and sell for those of you looking for some special gifts. Story time begins at 6:00 p.m.We've enjoyed having Miss Terry's menagerie during the last few weeks and look forward to the opportunities she provides to introduce children to some of the little critters she brings to market. Children can feed, pet and cuddle, all the cute little pigs, bunnies, baby goats and chickens ... she's looking to find homes for a few of them so make a point to see if you can find a "new best friend" from these cute little babies.
We've got drumlines lined up for October, another Touch a Tractor day, the guys from Station 8, and an opportunity to show off your pooch!
What's for Dinner?
Grayson in the Fall ... what a great place to grab some dinner, listen to the acoustic entertainment, and enjoy some family time. We've got dinner covered. Yes we do! Mac the Cheese, Rey's Cuban, Crepe Cottage, the European Market and the Wagon Wheel Ranch for dinner and then we have sno-cones, kettlecorn, pizelles, gourmet popsicles, and all sorts of pastries and cheesecakes throughout the market for dessert. We hope to see you this week in Grayson. Market opens at 3:30 and closes at dusk (around 7:00 p.m.)
