Gwinnett County Fair Canceled For 2020 Over COVID-19 Concerns
The fair has been rained out before but never canceled, said fair manager Dale Thurman.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA β For the first time in more than 60 years, the Gwinnett County Fair has been canceled.
βWeβve been rained out several times but never been canceled,β fair manager Dale Thurman told Patch. βBut itβs been a very unusual year.β
In a brief statement posted Monday night to social media, the fairβs board of directors said it felt that βitβs in the best interest of the community, staff and volunteers to cancelβ the fair, which had been scheduled for Sept. 17-27.

Gwinnett Countyβs climbing number of COVID-19 cases β 11,304 as of Monday β and too-easy access to the fairgrounds made the decision obvious, Thurman said.
βWe have so many gates and so many entrances,β Thurman said. βFor the safety of our customers weβd better skip this year and have a safe one next year in 2021.β

As a veteran of more than 20 years with the fair, Thurman said he was saddened the board chose to close.
βItβs in my blood, so Iβm disappointed we had to cancel,β Thurman said, βbut I think the decision is for the best.β
