🌱 Gwinnett Millage Rate Vote + Social Circle Emergency Drill

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Loganville-Grayson.

Hello again, neighbors! It's Wednesday in Loganville-Grayson and I'm back in your inbox with everything that's fit to print about what's happening in the community today. Let's do it.

First, today's weather:

A thunderstorm in the p.m. High: 94 Low: 72.

Here are the top five stories in Loganville-Grayson today:

  1. On Tuesday, a majority of Gwinnett commissioners voted to keep the millage rate unchanged, with only one call to roll the general fund rate back from 6.95 mills to 6.088 mills. Commissioner Kirkland Carden voted for the rollback in an attempt to give relief to taxpayers hit by inflation. However, other commissioners denied the county could do such a thing while simultaneously increasing public safety funding. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  2. Emergency responders from 11 different agencies tested responses during a hazardous materials drill in Social Circle. Burge Construction Co. hosted the test and agencies in their facility. Among the agencies were Covington Fire, Walton EMA, Social Circle fire and police departments, and Piedmont Walton Hospital. (Covington News)
  3. Gwinnett County Public Schools are beginning to change lunch menu options for more of the district's populations. Muslim families requested halal burgers for students on Hamburger Day, and Seckinger High School incorporated a Halal-certified grilled steak burger into its menu. They also incorporated additional vegetarian options, such as a vegetable pinwheel. (CBS 46 News)
  4. Snellville Police are searching for two individuals who were seen breaking into cars and are possibly armed in the Newtons Crest Circle area. A video released by police shows one of the individuals appearing to have a pistol in their hand. If anyone has additional information, contact Snellville PD at 770-985-3555. (CBS 46 News)
  5. Gwinnett Police have made another arrest in the murder of a father and coach at Peachtree Corners QuikTrip. Miles Collins has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault for his involvement in the Jul. 10 carjacking and murder of Bradley Coleman. David Jarrad Booker has also been arrested and was allegedly the shooter during the crime; his charges are felony murder and aggravated assault as well. (11Alive.com WXIA)
