Gwinnett Schools Best State, National Averages on SATs

Gwinnett's average composite SAT score is up six points from last year, school officials say.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Gwinnett County public school students did better than both the state and national average on SAT tests.

Gwinnett’s average composite score on the SAT is 1,503 -- a combination of an average critical reading score of 502 and an average mathematics score of 515, and an average writing score of 486.

That's 19 points above the national average of 1,484 and 44 points above the Georgia average of 1,459.

This year's students marked the eleventh class to take the version of the SAT which includes a writing section. Gwinnett test-takers topped state and national averages on all three sections.

Possible scores on each section range from 200-800, making 2,400 a perfect score.

A number of high schools saw increases in results from the prior year. The schools seeing improvement include: Archer; Berkmar; Collins Hill; Dacula; Grayson; Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology; Meadowcreek; Mountain View; Norcross; and Peachtree Ridge.

The greatest gains district-wide occurred on the mathematics section.

This year saw a slight decrease in the number of Gwinnett County students taking the SAT.

Gwinnett had 7,984 test-takers, down from 8,395 in 2015. The state and national also had decreases in the overall number of SAT takers.
