Here are the top five stories today in Loganville-Grayson:

  1. The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred at a Quicktrip in Peachtree Corners. The initial investigation reports that the shooting occurred on the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Peachtree Corners Circle during an attempted carjacking. The department has not released a lot of details but the victim appears to be male. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  2. A Georgia Gwinnett College professor and students are researching bees' interactions with blueberry bushes. The project is occurring at the Pinefield Eco Farm in Hephzibah throughout the summer months. Dr. Mark Schlueter, biology professor, obtained the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant to research if wildflower patches increase native bee abundance. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)

  4. The Gwinnett Daily Post is hosting a health fair and back-to-school expo on Jul. 16. There will be health checkups, COVID-19 vaccinations, a blood drive, early childhood education, family-friendly activities, and more. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bogan Park in Buford. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  5. Loganville-Grayson residents will now have access to expanded orthopoxvirus testing through the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The expanded testing will be able to detect all non-smallpox-related orthopoxviruses. The expanded testing is due to an increase in confirmed monkeypox cases in the state. There have been 30 so far.
