Heat Advisory: Indices of 105 Degrees Possible in Walton County

The advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Walton County is under a Heat Advisory for Wednesday, the National Weather Service said this morning.

The advisory, which includes a large area east and south of metro Atlanta, is in effect from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The area of impact is generally east of line from from Fort Benning, to Thomaston, to Covington, to Athens.

Heat indices are expected to reach 105 degrees or more.

HIGH TEMPERATURES AND HUMIDITY COULD LEAD TO HEAT ILLNESSES IF PROPER PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF DANGEROUS HEAT IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE HEAT INDEX READINGS OF AT LEAST 105 DEGREES AND VERY WARM OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES.

DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM AND STAY OUT OF DIRECT SUNSHINE. REMEMBER...THE ELDERLY...VERY YOUNG...AND PEOPLE WITH HEART CONDITIONS ARE MOST AT RISK IN EXTREME HEAT. FRIENDS...RELATIVES... AND NEIGHBORS SHOULD CHECK ON PEOPLE WHO MAY BE AT RISK.

The high temperature in Loganville is expected to be 97 degrees Wednesday, the weather service said.

The area also is under a Code Orange air quality alert for conditions unhealthy for sensitive groups.
