  1. After several 911 calls about a man who continued to brandish a gun at several locations, police caught up with the suspect at a Snellville Speedway. At about 4 a.m. police arrived on the scene, and after approaching the man to try and talk to him, he pulled a gun on police. An officer shot the man, who was not seriously injured, and were able to arrest him. The gun was found at the scene, and the officer suffered a minor injury, but the nature of the injury was not disclosed. (WSBTV)
  2. A woman who was driving through Duluth had a gun pulled on her after she accidentally cut a man off in traffic. (WSB Atlanta)
  3. The Gwinnett County Transit, established in 2001, has been rebranded to Ride Gwinnett. The change reflects the vibrant communities within the county and, according to Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson, it will show how the county will connect people with where they need to go. Hendrickson said that the goal is to make Ride Gwinnett an attractive transportation option for citizens and visitors in Gwinnett. • Many streams in Gwinnett County don't meet the state water quality standards. The Gwinnett County Public Library wants to be involved in teaching Gwinnett citizens how to clean them up. The Adopt-A-Stream program will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Collins Hill Branch, and the program will focus on chemical testing and how to monitor streams conditions. Upon completion of the free program, you can test for an official Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Certification in Chemical Monitoring. (Gwinnett Library)
  • Local job opportunities: Walton County School District is hiring for multiple positions in multiple locations throughout the county. (Monroe Local) The City of Monroe is hiring for multiple positions including firefighters and police officers. (Monroe Local) The Gwinnett County Corrections Career Fair will be Jan. 21 at the Comprehensive Correctional Complex. The department is trying to fill multiple Correctional Officer positions. • After a controversial call in one of this year's high school championship game, a bill has been introduced in the 2023 General Assembly to require instant replay in Georgia at the high school level. The bill will require any high school to use instant replay in a Championship game, funded by the state. There is a lot that goes into the use of instant replay with regards to camera angles and although the technology is widely available, the equipment and management can present challenges. Next year's championships will be held at Mercedes Benz Stadium, so the instant replay won't be a challenge as they already have it in place. The bill has a lot of support and is expected to pass during this year's General Assembly. (11alive)
