Here are the top stories in Loganville-Grayson today:

  1. Gwinnett County Fire Fighters spent about 7 hours extinguishing a fire that destroyed a 9,000 square foot mansion in the River Club subdivision early Sunday morning. According to neighborhood security, the homeowners are out of town. No injuries were reported, but the home was reported to be a total loss, and investigators will be working to determine what caused the fire. (Newsbreak)
  2. A Gwinnett man was arrested this week after police tracked down the laser he was pointing at a police helicopter. He admitted that he was "just messing" with the helicopter, however, the use of lasers and aircraft can have serious consequences. There were over 9,000 incidents involving lasers and aircraft, leading to almost 50 injuries, last year. (Newsbreak)
  3. Johnathan Remsen, of Loganville, was convicted of possession of child pornography by a federal jury. The conviction was the result of an undercover operation by the GBI of an "online peer-to-peer sharing network." He faces up to 20 years in prison, supervision for life, a $250,000 fine, and will be required to be registered as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. "There is no parole in the federal system." He is expected to be sentenced in the next 90 days. (Newsbreak)

  • Loganville High School swimmer, Abby Zboran, has claimed the 2023 5A GHSA State Title in the 200 Individual Medley. She is now the Back to Back State Champion in the event! (Facebook) The Loganville High School 200 Free Style Relay Team finished 3rd at the GHSA State Meet. Congrats to Blair Endicott, Haley Warden, Kyleigh Ryan, and Abby Zboran. The LHS Women's Swim team placed 12th overall. (Facebook)
  • Loganville Wrestling qualifies the first ever Women's Area placers and Sectionals Qualifiers, Ansley Mcpipkin with 6th place, Rachel Castro with 4th place and sectional qualifier, and Mayori Castro with 3rd place and sectional qualifier! (Facebook) Loganville Wrestling also qualified 10 of 11 wrestlers from the Men's team to sectionals. (Facebook)
  • McKenna Thacker, of Loganville Christian Academy, for a perfect GIAA State Meet by winning all three of her individual events, the 100-IM, 50-Freestyle, and 50-Butterfly. She also set GIAA record times in all three! (Facebook)

  • Sharon Elementary School in Loganville was recently awarded an EmPOWERment Grant from Walton EMC for the construction of an Adaptive Playground. The grant was for over $22,000 and was the most in the district. Sharon Elementary send thanks to Walton EMC for the award. (Facebook)
