Here are the top five stories in Loganville-Grayson today:
- A loaded gun was found in a box of donated school supplies at a Snellville elementary school as Gwinnett County students returned back to the classrooms last week. The principal of Britt Elementary School in Snellville sent out a letter to parents addressing the situation and ensuring parents that safety of students is a priority. The origins of the where the gun came from are unknown. Thankfully, nobody was injured, as the firearm was found after all of the students had left the building. (11Alive)
- The Walton County School District is hiring for a wide variety of positions in local schools. Job opportunities include school nurse, teacher, and custodian roles. The district is also hiring substitutes, speech pathologists, and bus drivers. All of the application information can be found at the link and filled out online. (Monroe Local)
- The Greater Eastside Chamber of Commerce's Monthly Business Connections Brunch will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 23. This month's guest speaker is Stephanie Sokenis from the Gwinnett Entrepreneur Center. Tickets will be $15 for non member and $20 for members, and are available for purchase online. The networking event will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Snellville. Those interested can register and get their tickets online. - Last week, the Walton County Board of Commissioners recognized the West Walton All Stars 5- and 6-year-old team for winning the 5- and 6-year-old World Series tournament in New Orleans. The kids went into the tournament with an undefeated record and have now taken home their second consecutive title. Congratulations! (Monroe Local)
- Georgia football fans are in for a treat this fall, as major sports broadcasting network, ESPN will feature two local high school games this season. The first broadcast will take place on Sep. 16 at 11:00 p.m. to show the Brookwood, Georgia team show down against Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fans can catch this game on ESPNU. The second game will take place on Sep. 30 at 7:00 p.m., when Collins Hill takes on Buford on ESPN2. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
