  1. Walton County businesses that experienced damage from the Jan. 12 storms may be eligible for assistance from the U.S. Small Business Association. The SBA will be opening a Business Recovery Center in Mansfield, GA to assist business owners in applying for eligible loans. Economic Injury Disaster Loans are the only loans available to Walton County small businesses and private nonprofit organizations. The temporary center will be located at the New Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Mansfield. (Monroe Local)
  2. A special election won't be needed to fill the vacant Walton County Board of Education seat for District 1. Angenette Brooks was the only qualified candidate, and she will be sworn in after notification from the Secretary of State. Brooks is replacing Simoan Baker after Baker was forced to resign amidst legal issues and a move out of the district. (Monroe Local)
  3. After a housing study in Gwinnett County, a new agency was created to address the county's growth over the next 20 years, affordable housing options, and the low housing inventory that county has faced. After approval for the proposed 2023 budget, Gwinnett's Housing and Community Development Division will begin their first year in operation. With a $23 million budget, mostly from federal grant funding, the division will contribute to nonprofits that help citizens avoid eviction, fund "public facility and infrastructure projects," and focus on creating diverse housing options with single-family and multi-family options.
