- Gwinnett County police released a statement that 23-year-old Kendell Evans is cooperating with police after an argument led to a fatal shooting on Saturday, Aug. 27. Daniel Covington, a 31-year-old of Loganville, was shot by Evans at a home on Rose Terrace Circle in Loganville after an argument at a family gathering. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Due to the poll worker shortage in metro Atlanta, the Gwinnett County elections office will likely be recruiting poll officials up to the last minute before the November election. Poll workers earn up to a $390 stipend. For more information, view the link. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Rey Martinez, who became the Mayor of Loganville in 2018 and the first Latino mayor in the state of Georgia, spoke at the grand opening of the Republican National Committee's Hispanic Community Center at a strip mall in Gwinnett County. Martinez is a candidate for Georgia House District 111 and said he knows "firsthand the benefit of grassroots efforts" in campaigning. Republicans have invested millions of dollars into community outreach centers in minority communities in states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Texas ahead of this year's midterm elections to gain the non-white vote.
