LOGANVILLE, GA—The Loganville Fire Department plans to take part in a boot drive to raise funds for an officer injured off duty.

On Feb. 13, Lt. Bruce Showalter was doing work in his home when he fell from a ladder and struck his head. Unfortunately, due to this fall, it resulted in a brain bleed. He is currently in a neurological intensive care unit at Gwinnett Medical Center.

His daughter, Brittany DeGuibert, recently took to social media to express her gratitude to the community for rallying behind her father as he recovers from his injuries.

"It’s so touching and inspiring to see how the entire community of Loganville, family, and friends have been rallying behind my Dad. It’s not going to be an easy road, but God only gives his toughest challenges to the strongest people!" she said.

As of Monday, she said her father has finally opened his eyes and is able to say short phrases.
