Loganville-Grayson Gas Prices: Sharp Increase Seen at the Pumps

Georgia's average increased by a dime last week due to refinery issues and rise in crude prices.

Gas prices took a big jump last week in Georgia, according to the AAA, rising more than a dime over the previous week.

The AAA said in its weekly briefing that the average price in Georgia for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline rose to $2.09 for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 8. The average price was $1.99 the week before. The national average was $2.17, up from $2.06.

Still, the Georgia average was more than a dollar less than the year ago ($3.18).

“Gas prices increased due to a series of refinery issues in the Midwest and a rise in crude oil prices,” Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group, said in the briefing. “Gasoline and oil prices quickly rose mid-week, but stabilized through the weekend.”

The AAA said it’s not uncommon for gas prices to increase “30-50 cents per gallon” between early February and the middle of spring.
