Loganville High Teacher Charged With DUI, Homicide

Meghan Caldwell is out on bond after the March 19 wreck in Barrow County.

LOGANVILLE, GA -- A Loganville High School teacher is out on bond after police say she ran a stoplight while under the influence, killing two people.

Meghan Caldwell, 24, of Loganville, ran a stoplight on Highway 316 in the early-morning hours of Friday, March 19, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Her 2012 Kia Sorrento hit the driver's side of a 2004 Ford Mustang, according to the Barrow County sheriff's office, killing the Mustang's driver, Cathy Moore, 41, of Flowery Branch, and passenger Bradley Atha, 36, of Dacula.

A second passenger was taken to the hospital for treatment and remained hospitalized earlier this week.

Caldwell was taken to the hospital, but released hours later. Investigators at the scene determined she was driving under the influence and she was arrested.

She faces charges on two counts of homicide by vehicle, serious injury by motor vehicle, DUI and a red-light violation.

Walton County Public Schools confirmed to Channel 2 that Caldwell is a teacher with the district. School records show she teaches language arts at Loganville High.

Schools spokeswoman Kim Embry told the Loganville News that Caldwell is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
