🌱 GCPS Lowers Millage Rate + Donate Blood At Grayson City Hall

Here are the top five stories in Loganville-Grayson today:
- Gwinnett County Public Schools is planning to lower its millage rate by 0.7 mills. On Thursday night, the total proposed millage rate of 20.65 mills — which is 0.7 mills lower than the 2021 rate — was tentatively adopted in conjunction with the board's final adoption of GCPS' $2.8 billion fiscal year 2023 budget. However, since the district is not going all the way to the rollback rate, public hearings must still be held. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
- On Jun. 22, the community will have an opportunity to donate blood at Grayson City Hall. The American Red Cross is in need of donations amid a nationwide blood shortage. Schedule an appointment between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and receive a $5 e-gift card to a merchant of your choice after you donate. (Red Cross)
- Want to celebrate the 4th of July a little early? Mark your calendar for Loganville's annual Independence Celebration next weekend! The City will be celebrating on Saturday, Jun. 25 from 6:00 to 10:30 p.m. at West Walton Park. Community members will enjoy games and activities, on-site food, DJ entertainment, and a live performance by Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band SkynFolks at 7:30 p.m. The fireworks follow the concert. - A 17-year-old accused of shooting a Gwinnett County police K9 has been released from the hospital. On May 23, police chased Levi Kennedy Bryan from Oakwood into the woods after responding to a call about a "man" with a gun threatening a woman in a home on Pine Lane in nearby Lawrenceville around 10:20 p.m. The suspect began shooting at officers, who returned fire, according to Gwinnett County police. Bryan is being held without bond and faces multiple charges. K-9 Kai is recuperating at home with his handler. (CBS 46 News)
- Get ready to laugh the night away at the Fully Loaded Comedy Festival over in Lawrenceville on Jun. 25. Standup comic Bert Kreischer will be bringing his comedy festival to Coolray Field in Lawrenceville next weekend, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The festival will feature an evening of yuks and chuckles as Kreischer will be supported at Coolray Field by fellow comics Nikki Glaser, Big Jay Oakerson, Mark Normand, Joey Diaz, Shane Gillis, and Brian Simpson.
