New Bay Creek Police Precinct, 911 Center To Be Built

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a $7.045 million contract to build a police precinct and alternate 911 center at Bay Creek Park.

“This is a major step in fulfilling the board’s stated goal of ensuring Gwinnett is a safe and healthy community,” said Board Chairman Charlotte Nash. “The police precinct will bolster our law enforcement presence in the fast-growing southeastern part of our county.”

The single-story, 12,249-square-foot structure will include command staff offices, an officers’ squad room, a classroom, a fitness center with locker rooms and evidence storage.

District 3 Commissioner Tommy Hunter added that the alternate 911 center will provide much-needed redundancy should the primary 911 center in Lawrenceville ever be knocked out of commission.

“The alternate 911 center will be used for backup of the main emergency 911 call center in case of natural disaster, power outages or other service disruptions,” Hunter said. “Its state-of-the-art communications equipment will duplicate the main 911 call center to ease transition of staff to the alternate call center. This will ensure vital and potentially life-saving protection and emergency service for Gwinnett’s residents when they need it most.”

The 6,236-square-foot facility, designed to storm shelter standards, will accommodate 20 dispatchers, an elevated area for supervisors to monitor and coordinate dispatchers, and ergonomically designed work stations and seating to reduce fatigue for the dispatchers.

The contract was awarded to Cooper & Company General Contractors. The project is being funded by SPLOST revenues.
