New Between Traffic Light To Be Activated

Drivers headed to Monroe will find something different on Highway 78 before entering the city - a traffic light in Between.

Officials from the Georgia Department of Transportation expect the new traffic light at Highway 78 and New Hope Church Road to go live Thursday afternoon, weather permitting. The light has been flashing as a warning for several days in advance of its activation.

“Please slow down through the area while crews finish their work at the new signal. Once the signal is operational, please use extra caution until you get familiar with the new signal location. Remember to watch out for other drivers until they get used to the new signal too,” Georgia DOT district engineer Todd McDuffie said in a press release.

Officials from GDOT said the traffic light had been installed after it was determined that the intersection met federal guidelines required for installation of a traffic signal. Although the 6th fastest growing state in the nation Georgia ranks 49^th in per capita spending on transportation, according to GDOT officials. For general information on GDOT, visit www.dot.ga.gov.
