The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Loganville-Grayson.
Good morning, Loganville-Grayson! It's me, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in town.
First, today's weather:
A heavy thunderstorm in the p.m. High: 88 Low: 73.
Here are the top five stories today in Loganville-Grayson:
- Northside Gwinnett Hospital will have the largest campus in the state in just a few years. A new 17-story tower, expected to be completed in 2026, will be added to the hospital campus, making it the biggest hospital at one site with a total of 973 beds. The total cost of the project is close to $800 million. (Gwinnett Forum)
- Gwinnett County police's Behavioral Health Unit, created in July 2021, is expanding. The unit has responded to hundreds of mental health crises calls since its inception and will be growing from two members to 12 by the end of the year. The expansion will allow the unit to have a total of six teams that can respond to calls every day of the week. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- School zone speeding will now be monitored by cameras at Central Gwinnett High School. After completing their recent traffic safety study, Lawrenceville says almost everyone driving by this school is speeding. By the end of the year, all six schools in the city will have the same cameras in hopes of deterring drivers from speeding in the school zones. (WSB Atlanta)
- Brennita Abrams, 55, of Snellville, has been arrested and charged in the death of Loganville 20-year-old motorcyclist Sean Phelan. Abrams was charged for the May 11 crash with homicide by vehicle in 2nd degree and failure to yield while entering a driveway. Abrams was released on a $6,350 bond the same day as her arrest on Jul. 21. (Monroe Local News - Loganville)
- According to a new poll, Georgia could turn blue in the Georgia governor's race, as well as the U.S. Senate contest. The survey by Beacon Research on behalf of the nonprofit Environmental Project showed this could be true if voters who said they were unlikely to vote actually came out to vote. The poll's executive summary stated, "This data reveals a significant turnout opportunity for Georgia Democrats if they are able to bring low-propensity voters off the sidelines."
