ONE

Sometimes the wisest things come out of the mouths of babes.

All of us think our children are brilliant: I know mine are for a fact.  Since this is my blog, and since my 9 year old daughter wrote a poem I think is up there with The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, How do I Love Thee, Shakespeare's Sonnets, all of Robert Frost, and Do Not Go Gently Into That Good Night, I share it with you as a public service.  I think it has echoes of Emily Dickinson, myself.  I'm keeping her spelling and grammatical errors as provenance.

ONE
by Marin Duff

There's just one Lady Liberty
One favorite outfit, but
If there was one of everything
There'd be just one of us.

There would be just one store
And one thing to pick out
If there was one of everything
I'd have one yell to shout.

There'd be one breath that I could take
There'd be one day to live!
I'd only have one snack to eat
I'd have one gift to give

It would be really good
If there was one of everything
I'd have only one class to take
And than I would be free
