One Dead, School Locked Down After Georgia Shooting: Report

A man was shot and killed at a gardening center across the street from Evans High School.

EVANS, GA — One person was dead and a high school was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after a shooting in east Georgia.

Deputy Coroner Harriett Garrison confirmed to WJBF that one person was dead after the shooting at Springwood Nursery, a gardening center in Evans.

Garrison told the station that an employee found the body of a man at about 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Evans High School, just across the street from the nursery, was placed on lockdown early in the morning.

By late morning, Principal Michael Johnson told WJBF that the school and its students were not impacted by the shooting and that the campus was safe.
