  1. Local hospital Piedmont Eastside recently earned national recognition for cardiovascular care. The honors were part of the American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline achievement awards. As a participant in the Get With The Guidelines program, Piedmont Eastside qualified for the award by demonstrating how the organization has committed to improving quality care.   2. If you love music and a little friendly competition, you won't want to miss the Battle of the Bands this Friday, Aug. 26 from 6-11 p.m. in Loganville. The bands will take the stage at the field next to Loganville City Hall to see who will perform on the Autumn Fest main stage this year. Food vendors will be available; guests can pack their own beer and wine, and are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for the evening. (City of Loganville)
  3. A 2016 Walton County graduate will be serving aboard USS The Sullivans. Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua Williams of Windsor is serving the ship out of Naval Station Mayport in Florida.   4. A Gwinnett County woman received a visit from the mayor for her 80th birthday. Barbara Rowley of Dacula celebrated her birthday with her family at Little Mulberry Park on Aug. 20. Her relatives came from South Carolina, Alabama, Illinois, and Nevada. Trey King, the mayor of Dacula, and his wife Dawn were secretly invited to congratulate her on her milestone birthday.
