After 10 months of living with and loving this child, the time for her to go home to Spain is here… It has been quite a ride! Pilar has her own spending money and health insurance. She just needed us - our home to live and enjoy life at Grayson High School. We have gotten her involved in everything we do from going to church to going with us to weddings and funerals and what ever life threw at us. She stayed with friends when we had to leave town and she had school. She has lived a typical American teenage life here with rules and chores. We have watched her sing solos in church and in the community in our church choir. We have watched her swim on the swim team at school. We have watched her grow and mature this past school year. She has helped us paint the deck, work in the yard, planting trees, and raking leaves right beside us. She is a happy and very smart girl who loves life and frankly, our home is going to be a little too quiet for the next few months. She has been trying to spend time with her friends, "just one last time" for days now. I have no idea how she is going to get all her purchases back home! We are awaiting her mother's arrival - trying to pack and clean! OH, and scrapbook! Lots of pictures of her 10 months here. She keeps saying, "I just got here". Her mother is flying in to Atlanta and spending a couple of days with us and then they are heading to New York to take a test used to determine college in Spain. The parents coming to meet the student happens occasionally. Most do not, but we have made friends and I love her Mom. I traveled on business to Spain last November and spent a few days there with them. This is definitely a friendship that will last a life time. I look forward to showing her Mother around town this weekend. Any ideas of where to take her or what to do?
Would you be interested in hosting an exchange student?
