At least 200 rabbits were found after Gwinnett County Animal Control received a complaint about excessive rabbits at the property on Bennett Road in Grayson, Gwinett Police said in a news release.
The person who called animal control reported receiving a free rabbit from the location on July 22, but when the property was visited two days later, no county ordinance violations were found, police said.

“During the visit, animal control officers observed numerous pens with rabbits inside. Some of the pens were overcrowded which is a characteristic of animal hoarding. However, the rabbits appeared to be well fed and healthy,” Gwinnett Police public information officer Cpl. Deon Washington said in the news release. “The animals were not living in filth and none of the animals were dead. The owner of the property requested assistance to reduce the number of rabbits at the location.”
The number of rabbits was estimated at 200, but the exact number was not known.
Wednesday afternoon, Gwinnett Animal Control, Georgia Department of Agriculture and the rescue group Georgia House Rabbit Society were at the property removing some of the rabbits.
“Some of the rabbits will remain at the location and others will be signed over to Gwinnett County Animal Control and the rescue group,” Washington said in the news release. “Gwinnett County Animal Control has no plans to cite the owner because there were no county ordinance violations.”
