Here are the top stories today in Loganville-Grayson:

  1. The first tree has been planted at Rowen as a symbol of growth. Rowen will be a 2,000 acre community off of Hwy 316, a short drive from the Loganville and Grayson communities. The global knowledge community plans to provide a mix of labs, offices, residential and retail spaces, as well as parks and community spaces. It is expected to bring together leadership in the agricultural, medical, and environmental fields. Upon completion, Rowen should provide about 100,000 jobs to local residents and Georgians as well as contribute over $8 billion dollars in annual revenue to the state. (Gwinnett Forum)
  2. Walton County employees received good news from last Tuesday's vote on pay raises. All Walton County employees will receive a 6% Cost of Living Allowance as well as tiered raises for department heads. It is believed that the increases will help to decrease the number of employment vacancies with the county. The Cost of Living Allowance and tiered raises are effective immediately. (Monroe Local)
  3. At the Walton County Board of Commissioners in October, Chairman David Thompson proposed that the Board cut the Chairman's salary to almost a quarter of the current salary and change the classification of the position to part time. Last Tuesday, the Board voted to approve the changes. Thompson believes that it is improper for an elected official to be running the day to day operations in Walton county. With the addition of a County Manager to take over the day to day, the changes for the Chairman will take place with the next election cycle beginning in 2024. (Monroe Local)
