Ruptured Gas Line Forces Evacuations of 8 Homes

Gwinnett Fire: The gas line was hit by a man mowing his lawn.

Eight homes were evacuated Saturday afternoon following a gas leak reported in south Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett County fire crews were dispatched at 12:25 p.m. to 4362 Arbian Way in unincorporated Snellville after a caller reported he was cutting grass when he hit a one-inch gas line connected to a service meter.

Gwinnett Fire Capt. Jarred Barrett said in an email that eight homes were evacuated because they were inside a 300-foot radius of the ruptured line.

Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services Hazardous Material Unit responded to the scene to take gas readings of the atmosphere and affected homes. The departments Special Response Unit also responded to place all occupants from the evacuated homes to escape the hot environment.

Atlanta Gas & Light secured the leak and repaired the line by around 2 p.m.
