Shots Fired During Armed Robbery at Golden Corral, Police Say

Gwinnett Police are looking for two suspects in a weekend armed robbery of a restaurant manager as he was locking up after closing time.

Two shots were fired, apparently not directly at the victim, when the suspects became impatient while the manager tried to open the safe, police said.

The robbery was reported Sunday, July 19, shortly after 1 a.m. at the Golden Corral located at 3888 Stone Mountain Highway.

Gwinnett Police spokesperson Cpl. Michele Pihera said in a news release that the manager, 57, was locking up when he was “physically attacked by two black males,” both of whom were armed.

Surveillance photos released by police Wednesday showed a man pointing a gun at the manager. One photo showed a gun held at the manager’s head while he was unlocking the front door to go back inside the restaurant (see photos attached to this article).

Pihera said the men demanded the manager open the safe and fill a black bag with the money. The shots were allegedly fired as the manager struggled to open the safe.

“When the manager was having difficulty opening the safe, the suspect fired one shot in close proximity to the victim’s head,” Pihera said in the news release. “A few moments later, and after the manager still couldn’t open the safe, the suspect fired another shot. This round struck a computer monitor.”

The men then ran out of the restaurant. It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspects got away with cash.

• Clothing: Grey Hooded Jacket, Grey Sweatpants, Grey Gloves, Bandana

• Sex/Race: Black/Male
• Age: Approximately 18-25
• Height: 5-08 to 5-09
• Weight: Approximately 180-185 lbs.
• Clothing: Grey Jacket with Horizontal Stripes, Grey Sweatpants, Grey Gloves, Striped Bandana
