Here are the top five stories today in and around Loganville-Grayson:

  1. Business owners and residents in Gwinnett County are hoping the city of Snellville will lift the ban on opening liquor stores. Some are worried about underage drinking becoming a concern, while others doubt the ban lift will increase crime or illegal activity. The city manager is unsure at the moment how much money in taxes the city could generate through this, but they are currently working on creating an ordinance that would hold new liquor stores to a high standard. 2. Gwinnett County families and business owners partnered together to provide Grayson Elementary School with supplies for some local kindergarten students in need. A few school parents learned of the need and spread the word through PTA and to local businesses who donated around $5,000, which was enough to cover five kindergarten classes. One parent noted she hopes to continue this for the next school year. (95.5 WSB - Atlanta's News & Talk)
  3. Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, located less than a half hour from the Loganville and Grayson areas, completed a $12.6 million expansion and renovation with a new 21-bed patient care unit and updates in various departments. There was a huge need to expand the hospital with the growth of the surrounding community and to ensure patients were seen in a timely manner. Blake Watts, CEO of the hospital, explained their goal to "improve patient access and care," as well as to "modernize and improve [their] hospital campus for patients, visitors, and staff." 4. Loganville's Red Devil Varsity football team made national news for its 45-39 win against Monroe Area High School on Friday night's season opener. The final play went viral after Connor O'Neil threw a no-look, back pass to the tight end who then scored a touchdown. The play was featured on ESPN Sports Center, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, Online Athens, Fox 5, and Touchdown Wire, as well as posted on Facebook. (Your Local News)
  5. The Loganville Christian Academy cross country team started its season at home on Saturday with the annual LCA invitational.
