Snellville Teen Given 140 Years After Woman Shot 19 Times: Report

A Lawrenceville judge gave Damia Mitchell, of Snellville, a 140-year sentence in connection with the shooting death of Faith Burns.

LOGANVILLE, GA β€” A Lawrenceville judge gave a 17–year-old girl a 140-year sentence Monday after she was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, three counts of aggravated assault and eight counts of street gang terrorism, WSB-TV reported.

Damia Mitchell, of Snellville, was wanted in connection with the shooting death of a Loganville woman on Valentine’s Day in 2021. Investigators said she shot and killed Faith Burns, 20, in what police call a "domestic-related homicide."

According to WSB-TV, Mitchell fired up to 19 shots at the Dacula home of Burns. Police said that Mitchell and Burns did not know each other, but that Burns knew Mitchell’s ex-girlfriend. Mitchell turned herself in the day of the shooting

Prosecutors argued that the shooting was a gang-related ex-lovers’ quarrel. The four other girls who went to the home were charged along with Mitchell.

Mitchell’s family told WSB that her sentence is too much.

β€œI just know something needs to be done. What they did in court wasn’t right,” said Vanissa Jackson, Mitchell’s mother. β€œShe is not the shooter. She didn’t do this.”
