South Gwinnett Band Director Arrested On Sex Assault Charges

SNELLVILLE, GA — A former band director at South Gwinnett High School has resigned amid charges that he sexually assaulted female band students at the school.

Villie Jones, 42, of Lawrenceville, was arrested Thursday evening on four counts of sexual assault. He was being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

According to school officials, Jones resigned on Wednesday.

In a letter to parents, South Gwinnett Principal Monique Lee acknowledged a police investigation and arrest in regard to "allegations that a teacher at our school has had an inappropriate relationship with several students."

"I share with you that as an educator and a South Gwinnett parent myself, these allegations are very disturbing," Lee wrote. "This type of behavior between a teacher and students is not acceptable. Our students, our community and the teaching profession deserve better."

According to police, an 18-year-old student told officers on Tuesday that Jones had raped her multiple times, most recently in March. She also told Snellville Police about three more students who were allegedly assaulted by Jones.

Jones had worked at the school since 2014 and served as its band director since 2015.
