Here are the top five stories today in Loganville-Grayson:
- Are you stressed out? A Georgia Gwinnett College professor has described some of the best vacations to fully recuperate. According to Dr. David Ludden, not all vacations are created equal. - A recent downturn in the economy has terminated the merger of two Gwinnett County banks. Georgia Banking Company, Inc. and Peoples BankTrust, Inc. announced their merger in Nov. 2021. The original proposal had Peoples BankTrust, Inc. merging into Georgia Banking Company, Inc. through a deal of approximately $58 million. (Gwinnett Forum)
- Gwinnett County is upgrading its fleet of fire trucks and ambulances. The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved the $7.8 million upgrades during a recent meeting. The fire truck contract is going to Sutphen Corp. - the original manufacturer of the vehicles. The ambulance funds will be used to remount eight vehicles on the new chassis. - Opportunities Academy is educating Gwinnett County students on healthcare. The program offers students a weeklong experience on the campus of the Suwanee medical school. Students painted a heart, modeled a kidney, learned to check vital signs, gained knowledge on career opportunities, and simulated medical procedures. (Newnan CEO)
- Loganville's James Arthur Bently has been charged with a DUI. Bently was pulled over by the Georgia State Patrol after he failed to stop for a posted stop sign on Jul. 3. An open container was reportedly discovered in Bently's vehicle. (The Moultrie Observer)
