Three Gwinnett Restaurants Make Georgia's '100 Plates' List

Georgia Tourism's '100 Plates Locals Love' provides locally-sourced suggestions on restaurants to travelers visiting the Peach State.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Three Gwinnett County restaurants have been named to a 2017 list Georgia tourism officials compiled of the tastiest dishes in the Peach State.

The list — "100 Plates Locals Love" — was compiled by the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s tourism division as part of its 2016 state culinary guide, Georgia Eats.

The spicy miso ramen at Umaido, a Japanese restaurant in Suwanee, got special accolades, making "Hugh's Top 10," a list compiled by James Beard Award-winning chef Hugh Acheson, who owns five Georgia restaurants.

In the list's "Atlanta Metro" section, the burger and fries at 1910 Public House, in Lilburn, and the pimento cheese at Local Republic, in Lawrenceville, were listed alongside other top dishes.

"You can tell it's fresh and it is one of the best burger I've ever eaten," a reviewer wrote of 1910's offering. "The fries are fresh cut and delicious.

Of Local Republic's dish, a reviewer wrote: "The pimento cheese is awesome, balanced with jalapeño and bacon on fresh toasted baguette. Doesn't get any better!"

The culinary guide also includes 10 flavor tours, feature stories, exclusive recipes from local chefs, popular food festivals and much more.

"Culinary experiences continue to be one of the top drivers of visitor interest when planning a vacation," said Kevin Langston, deputy commissioner for tourism at the Georgia Department of Economic Development. "Georgia offers visitors unique food and beverage experiences in every corner of the state, and the Georgia Eats guide makes it easy for visitors and locals to discover the many flavors of Georgia."

Georgia Tourism created 100 Plates Locals Love three years ago as a way to provide visitors with locally-sourced suggestions on where to grab the best bites around the Peach State. This year, more than 750 plates were nominated via ExploreGeorgia.org and evaluated by a panel of judges.

The annual compilation lists dishes and their respective restaurant by region.

You can pick up a copy of the Georgia Eats culinary guide at one the state's 12 Visitor Information Centers across the state or on its consumer tourism website, Explore Georgia.
