Here are the top stories in Loganville-Grayson today:
- Due to the City of Loganville's Independence Celebration today (Saturday, Jun. 25), portions of Twin Lakes Road will be shut down. Between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m., the road will be closed from the entrance to the Meridian Community Center to Tom Brewer Road. Learn more about today's festivities here. (City of Loganville)
- Tomorrow (Sunday, Jun. 26) marks the weekly Soulful Soul Food Sunday Brunch at Lets Cafe. The event takes place at the Grayson eatery from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Gospel recording artist Lady Voncile Belcher will perform at this Sunday's brunch. (Loganville-Grayson Patch)
- On Friday, the Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision, ruling that individual states may outlaw abortion. According to the Guttmacher Institute, Georgia could potentially ban abortions after six weeks, when a fetal heartbeat is typically detected. The state has also implemented the "Heartbeat Law" as of 2019; the fetus' viability, as well as the patient's health, must be determined on an individual basis by a doctor. (Georgia Patch)
- As vape shop burglaries rise in Gwinnett County, authorities are encouraging local businesses and vape dispensaries to keep their wits about them. Gwinnett County police encourage small businesses to request a crime prevention survey from the department's Community Affairs Unit. (CBS 46 News)
- Gwinnett County youth are invited to join the Atlanta Hawks' Check It Out Reading Challenge. Students in grades K-12 who read five or more books will earn one free youth ticket to a select Hawks game in the upcoming season. The challenge will run until Sep. 2. (Gwinnett County Public Library)
