"Two Calves Attacked by Roaming Dogs on the Cattle Farm Last Night"

Part of my job in Wildlife Control is Pet and Livestock death investigation. The Predatory and killing behavior between Coyotes and Dogs is very different. Coyotes are the most efficient killers. Straight to the throat for the kill and then they begin feeding on a small calf. Dogs are inefficient killers. They mutilate and kill for sport. Coyotes kill to survive. I've wrote numerous articles concerning what can happen when irresponsible pet owners allow their dogs to roam. This attack on these calves absolutely makes me sick and sad. An innocent calf was brutalized at the mouths of these Beasts. The ranch hand just bought this brown bull calf and had it and another calf in a small fenced in area behind the main barn. Two large dogs (positively identified by the landowner) attacked both and due to the extensive mutilation of the brown one I had to euthanize it this morning. The other calf can barely walk around. The pictures show dog predation, plain and simple. Coyotes would have eaten the entire calf last night. I did a thorough investigation of the carcass. I found no puncture wounds to the throat nor feeding as typical of coyote predation. There was a large bite wound to the back as if the dogs were trying to break it's spine. There was no feeding on the carcass at all. The dogs attacked it for sport. I know the breed of dog involved since they were positively identified by the landowner. I am not going to identify them here. They will be back because they enjoy the killing just like a human serial killer, they will not stop until they are stopped. When irresponsible owners allow their pets to roam or abandon them, they regress to their primitive behaviors and will eventually become feral. These two dogs have crossed the line and there is no going back. "I don't write my articles like this for your enjoyment. I write them in hopes to educate the general public and make them aware of what their pets are up to when off the leash." The ranch hand also said he saw two other black dogs chasing the cows in another pasture several days ago. I take my job protecting this landowner's cattle herd very serious. This attack has cost roughly $600 in damages to his livestock. When I see these dogs on the Farm again, Justice will be swift, at 3100 fps. to be exact.
