Opponents of a proposed mixed-use development near Grayson are expected to voice their displeasure at a Gwinnett County Commission public hearing Tuesday night.

After the 7 p.m. hearing, commissioners could vote on seven re-zoning requests totaling more than 300 acres along Ga. Highway 20 (Loganville Highway) between Grayson and Loganville.

Grayson Investment Partners, LLC, and developer David Bowen are seeking the allowances to develop 345.9 acres owned by the Medical College of Georgia Foundation, according to the meeting agenda.

The county planning commission has recommended approval with conditions. A yes vote would pave the way for the controversial plan.

The Atlanta Busisness Chroncile reports the proposal includes plans for more than 600 residences and more than 500,000 square feet of retail space.

Residents don’t want the development because they believe it is too large for the community, the Business Chronicle said.

Suzanne Booth, who is part of a community effort to derail the project, told WXIA-TV the development would “change this community forever.”

“We need EVERYONE to be at the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioner’s Meeting tomorrow (Tuesday), May 26th at 7:00pm. This is our last chance to defeat the rezoning from residential to commercial on Hwy. 20!!!”

The public hearing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The potential vote would follow.
