Walton County Votes: Turnout Good; Runoff Expected in Commission Race

Walton County voters showed up in good numbers for Tuesday’s Georgia primary vote.

Voter turnout in the county was 21.3 percent, well above the statewide turnout of 18.7.

In key statewide races, Walton voters favored Gov. Nathan Deal by a wide margin, and leaned toward David Perdue in the seven-candidate U.S. Senate GOP vote.

Many of the local races went unopposed. Here’s a look at key contested races.

County Commission 1: Incumbent Clinton Ayers beat Republican opponent Jeff Buice with 61 percent of the vote.

County Commission 4: Incumbent Lamar Palmer finished behind Lee Bradford in the GOP vote, but the two will face in a runoff in July. Bradford won 47.4 percent of the vote; Palmer was at 37.7. Nearly 15 percent of the vote went to Ronald Smith.

County Commission 5: GOP incumbent Jeremy Adams beat Todd White by 35 points.

Board of Education 2: Republican Jeremy Kilburn, the incumbent, had 67 percent to beat Charles Wilson.
