Walton Man Who Fired At Deputies Arrested
Authorities say David Cook fired an AR-15 rifle and several handguns about 50 times and asked "Why didn't you shoot me?"

LOGANVILLE, GA -- A Walton County man was arrested Thursday after firing about 50 shots, including several at deputies, in what the sheriff describes as an effort at "suicide by cop."
"He was standing in the garage of the house, with a magazine in his right hand. Had both hands up. They approached him, took him down, and he kept making statements, 'Why didn't you shoot me? Why didn't you shoot me?'" Walton County sheriff Joe Chapman told WSB-TV.
The incident happened in the Morgan's Landing subdivision, between Loganville and Monroe.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office said David Cook, 42, suffers from depression and had made suicidal comments.
Wednesday afternoon, the office received reports that someone was firing random shots in the neighborhood, according to a Facebook post.

When deputies arrived, the post says, Cook fired several shots at them from an AR-15 rifle and multiple handguns.
In all, he fired as many as 50 rounds, the sheriff's office said, including shooting at a police helicopter.
The sheriff's post said Cook has no prior criminal record and was not known to the sheriff's office as any sort of threat.
"It is only because of the training of WCSO deputies including special operations teams that caused this incident to result in the suspect being taken to the local hospital with NO injury and then to the jail," the post reads. "This could have ended much differently."
No one was injured during the shooting.
