Which Gwinnett Cities Are Among Georgia's Safest?

LOGANVILLE, GA — Four of Georgia's safest cities are in Gwinnett County. That's according to the findings of security website Safewise, which released its list of Georgia's 50 Safest Cities for 2017 this week.

Auburn, Suwanee, Loganville and Lawrenceville made the annual list, on which Safewise gave Georgia as a whole high marks for safety.

"Whether it’s on Georgia’s 30 public institutions for higher learning, across the Peach State’s highways, or in the cribs of Georgia’s next generation, safety is priority number one in this southern state," Safewise said in the report.

All 50 cities on the list reported fewer than 40 total violent and property crimes per 1,000 people, according to 2015 FBI crime data.

Although Georgia has a slightly higher crime rate than the national average, 58 percent of Georgia’s safest cities have lower property crime rates and 88 percent reported lower violent crime rates than the national average.

The website specifically cited Georgia's Safe to Sleep campaign, which aims to reduce Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and the Share the Road initiative — which earmarked nearly $100,000 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to help keep motorcyclists safe on Georgia’s roads.

Here's how the four Gwinnett cities ranked:

No. 20: Auburn (Previous rank: 10) Violent crimes per 1,000: 2.88. Property crimes per 1,000: 18.89

No. 30: Suwanee (Previous rank: 26) Violent crimes per 1,000: 1.37. Property crimes per 1,000: 27.37

No. 32: Loganville (Previous rank: 23) Violent crimes per 1,000: 0.72. Property crimes per 1,000: 28.4

No. 50: Lawrenceville (Previous rank: Not ranked) Violent crimes per 1,000: 3.42. Property crimes per 1,000: 35.52.

John's Creek, near Gwinnett in north Fulton County, was ranked No. 1 on the 2017 list. Rounding out the top five were Milton, Senoia, Summerville and Braselton.
