Baby Monitors Recalled for Strangulation Risk

The manufacturer is offering a free kit to eliminate the strangulation risk.

25,000 U.S. and 3,500 Canadian baby monitors have been recalled by the manufacturer after it was discovered the sensor pad cord can cause newborns to accidentally strangle themselves.

Mayborn USA is recalling its Tommee Tippee® Monitor with Movement Sensor Pads with the model numbers 1082S and 1094S. The model numbers can be found on the bottom of the recharging base.

According to the U.S. Consumer Protection Agency, a newborn can "pull sensor pad cord into crib and wrap around the neck, posing a strangulation hazard."

Parents are instructed to immediately make sure their affected baby monitors' cords are out of the reach of children and contact the manufacturer for items that will remove the strangulation risk.

Mayborn USA is offering consumers a free cord cover kit which includes rigid cord covers, an electric cord warning label, and updated instructions.

To obtain a cover kit, please call Mayborn at (866) 214-1537 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Monday-Friday. Alternately, you can request one online.
