World Premiere. In 2011, Troy Davis was executed for killing a white police officer – setting off a tinderbox throughout the Southeast and beyond. In this gripping new play, Atlanta writer Lee Nowell re-ignites this critical conversation through the lives of her characters. Burned-out activist Alison finds fresh purpose in the effort to free Troy Davis, to the exasperation of her corporate lawyer husband. Civil Rights Movement veteran Mary and her college-aged grandson Curtis clash on their beliefs about capital punishment in light of a dark trauma in their past. Commissioned and developed by Synchronicity, this powerful world premiere presents a balanced investigation of our divergent and deeply-held beliefs on race, justice and the death penalty. The two acts are played in alternating order each night.
