Fulton County Schools Reacts to Winter Weather Advisory

Forecasts predict a wintry mix on Friday, with the possibility of snow and black ice in some parts of the Atlanta area.

Fulton County students will get a three-day weekend as a result of the potentially dangerous winter weather pummeling the state.

The Fulton County School District officially closed all county schools for Friday just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, citing an overabundance of caution and referencing the Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service earlier the same day.

According to the advisory, accumulations of up to one inch of snow and one-tenth inch of ice could be possible in the area between 1 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. The advisory says that snowfall would likely begin Friday night, followed by sleet and freezing rain overnight and into Saturday.

Although teachers and students will get the day off, 235-day and 220-day employees should report to work as usual, provided they can safely make the trip.

“Thank you for your support as we do everything possible to keep our students safe,” Fulton County Schools wrote on its Facebook page.
