Streetcar Testing Begins Saturday Morning

Atlanta police will escort the streetcar as it is towed along its route.

Atlanta Streetcar will perform a dry run of their route overnight on Saturday to ensure the vehicle has sufficient clearance.

A release from the organization says that car 1003 will be towed along its route starting at midnight Saturday on Auburn Avenue. The ten-hour test will take the streetcar through Woodruff Park, north on Peachtree Street, west on Ellis Street to Carnegie Way and Andrew Young International Boulevard.

The streetcar will then be towed south to Centennial Olympic Park Drive, east onto Luckie Street, south on Park Place, east along Edgewood Avenue, north on Jackson Street, and returned to Auburn Avenue. The entire trip is 2.7 miles long.

According to Atlanta Streetcar, the vehicle will travel at five mph for the entirety of the trip, and will stop at each designated stop along the route. Atlanta police will escort the vehicle along its route, as well.

Rolling closures will be in effect for the duration of the test, which could cause delays. Drivers are requested to use alternate routes for the affected area Saturday morning.
