Watershed Management Holding Small Business Development Program
An information session is scheduled for next week.

Staff Report
The Department of Watershed Management will kick off its eighth Small Business Development Program (SBDP-8) with an information session on Aug. 5, in the 2 City Plaza Auditorium.
SBDP-8 provides intensive training in sewer rehabilitation techniques and construction management. During the 10-week program beginning in September, companies will receive instruction in a wide range of subjects including estimating and bidding, project scheduling, safety, bonding and insurance and sewer repair methods. After completing the program, companies are prepared to compete for prime and sub-contracting opportunities with the City’s nearly $4 billion program to rebuild Atlanta’s water and sewer infrastructure.

“Atlanta has a long and rich history of thriving small businesses which have helped this city grow and prosper,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. ““This program provides an opportunity for Atlanta’s small, women-owned and minority-owned businesses to thrive with the City of Atlanta.”
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, more than 722,000 small businesses and entrepreneurs make significant contributions to Georgia’s economy. Watershed Management’s program is designed to strengthen the capabilities of small, minority and female business owners and educate them on how to conduct business with the City of Atlanta.

“SBDP-8 provides an opportunity for small business owners to develop the necessary skills required to compete for City Atlanta contracts,” said Watershed Management Commissioner Jo Ann Macrina. “It is our goal to ensure that these enterprises have the resources and tools to perform complex construction activities. We are committed to the City’s goals in investing in the growth of small businesses in Atlanta and throughout the state. We encourage their participation in this program.”
Since SBDP was established in 2007, more than 220 small business owners have graduated from the program. For more information about Watershed Management’s Small Business Development Program, please visit www.atlantawatershed.org/vendor or call 404-546-3200.
