Celso's Cakes Sued Over Failure to Deliver Cakes

Celso's Cakes has apparently closed, and several people have come forward, saying they paid for cakes they never received, the AJC reported.

The bakery, which was located on Dawson Boulevard, allegedly took orders and money for wedding cakes but went out of business before delivering them, according to the AJC.

One man, Toye Akinsanya, told Channel 2 Action News that he and his wife Bridget ordered two cakes from Celso’s Cakes for their niece’s wedding. They paid $2,000 just 10 days before the event. But when they showed up to the wedding reception on Aug. 25, one day after the bakery closed, the cake wasn’t there, the AJC reported.

The Akinsanyas have filed a lawsuit in Gwinnett County Court to get their money back, the AJC reported.

And at least two more people have told Channel 2 they paid for cakes they never received. 

Jana Sutherland told Channel 2, “I am out $483 … I found out 10 days before my wedding that I was not going to have a cake. I managed to find another bakery that took my order, so I was OK. But I want my money back from Celso’s.”

And Michelly Gonzales had previously told Channel 2 she was concerned that she lost $450 she paid the bakery for a cake for her wedding in February. “We’re on a budget. We exceeded our budget as it is. It’s going to be tough,” she said, according to the AJC.

According to reviews on Yelp.com, the bakery was known for its wedding cakes. One bride posted in August that after the bakery closed on Aug. 24, she had 11 days to come up with a plan B.
