Gwinnett Public Meeting To Address Safety Concerns, Teen Overdoses
The community meeting is scheduled amidst reports of teen deaths and overdoses in various parts of Gwinnett County.
GWINNETT, GA — Police in Gwinnett County will sponsor a community meeting to address safety issues in the county, specifically concerns regarding the safety of youths and the Hispanic community.
The meeting is a response to the number of homicides involving youths, overdoses among teens and other tragic events affecting the Hispanic community, police said in a news release.
"False information has been spreading on social media and by word of mouth about these incidents. This meeting will be an opportunity for our residents to ask questions and get answers directly from the Gwinnett Police Department," police said in the release.

Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure will be present at the meeting, as well as members of the West Precinct command staff and the Criminal Investigations Unit. Spanish speaking officers and interpreters will attend.
Officers will not adress details of active cases but will answer questions about procedures or questions regarding concerns about what is happening in local neighborhoods.

"The Gwinnett Police Department’s mission is to provide professional law enforcement services to all our residents in a fair, compassionate and non-biased manner," police said in the release.
The community meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Universal Church, 6081 Singleton Road.
