Woman Tries To Rob Taxi With a Gun, Victim Fights Back: Police

The victim beat his attacker with her own gun, to the point where it broke into two pieces, police say.

Norcross, GA — What was originally reported to police as a fight outside a Norcross apartment complex on Tuesday turned out to be a whole lot more.

Gwinnett County Police say a woman tried to rob a taxi driver at gunpoint, but the driver took the gun from her and fought back.

Officers were called to the Las Palmas apartment complex, at 1 Seasons Pkwy., around 8 a.m. to discover two people near a set of dumpsters.

"One man was standing over another person issuing blows to the head," according to a news release.

The man, it turned out, was taxi driver Alan Hernandez, 32, of Doraville. The person on the receiving end of his aggression was Desiree Lindsey, 22, of Norcross.

Officers saw that Hernandez was holding a walkie-talkie and part of a handgun, which he placed on the ground when they ordered him to do so. Lindsey was bleeding badly, the release said, so officers called for an ambulance and treated her wounds.

"This isn't what you think it is," she reportedly told the officers.

Lindsey told an officer that she tried to rob Hernandez because she owed someone money, according to the release. She said she hit Hernandez in the head with her gun, but that he got out of the car, took the gun away from her and began beating her with it until it broke.

Hernandez told officers he thought Lindsey was going to kill him, so he fought back. He had a cut on the back of his head and cuts on his shoulders, legs and arms, police said. His shirt was ripped on the side and he, too, was covered in blood. He was treated by the ambulance as well.

Officers recovered nine unspent rounds of ammunition from the handgun.

Lindsey was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, then placed under arrest for aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery. She also had outstanding warrants from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office and Duluth Police Department.

She is currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail.

Hernandez does not face any charges in the incident.
